Chandigarh, Nov 28 (PTI) Haryana Director General of Police Shatrujeet Kapur on Thursday took cognizance of a recent incident of robbery in Rewari district, ordering the suspension of SHOs of four police stations in the district for negligence.

Presiding over a meeting with senior officers at Panchkula police headquarters, DGP Kapur stressed that no compromise with law and order will be tolerated and strict action will be taken against officials or personnel found negligent in their duties, according to an official release.

Earlier this month, in a broad daylight robbery captured on CCTV, three masked men shot and injured a jeweler’s son and made off with money and valuables from their shop in Katla Bazaar in Bawal town of Rewari district.

Thursday’s meeting was attended by senior police officers from across the state, including inspector generals of police and inspectors of police through video conferencing, discussed various strategies to effectively maintain law and order, the statement said.

Stressing responsibility, the DGP urged officers to increase police visibility in the area and regularly question suspicious persons.

He called for task-based staffing with daily reporting to ensure better surveillance and improved police operations.

DGP Kapur instructed officers to hold field personnel accountable for incidents occurring in their jurisdiction, focusing particularly on the routes used by criminals before and after committing crimes.

He stressed the need to vigilantly monitor and interrogate suspicious persons in the field.

To improve operations at the district level, the DGP directed SPs to conduct regular training sessions on new criminal laws and handling of arms.

Refresher training for weapons and special tactics teams was also advised, along with reviews to ensure their effectiveness, the statement said.

He further recommended regular meetings with representatives of jewellers’ associations, banks, petrol pumps and trade organizations to share precautions and improve coordination with the police.

Kapur emphasized the importance of high-quality CCTV cameras installed in the districts and urged the officers to ensure that the cameras are operational and conduct regular checks to maintain their functionality.

He announced a significant increase in the workforce of the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), doubling the staff to speed up the processing of evidence, the statement said.

He also said that district-level forensic laboratories are being set up to serve as one-stop points for collection and analysis of evidence.

According to the statement, the officers have been directed to ensure that these laboratories are well-equipped and robust to effectively deal with local requirements.
