Marcus Rashford is ‘NOT even worth £10m’, claims Ben Foster – as he slams the Man United star, insisting he comes on ‘once in 10 games’ and has ‘lost that fire’

Marcus Rashford is ‘NOT even worth £10m’, claims Ben Foster – as he slams the Man United star, insisting he comes on ‘once in 10 games’ and has ‘lost that fire’

Former Man United star Ben Foster has hit out at Marcus Rashford and questioned what the future holds for the striker at Old Trafford.

Rashford said last week he was “ready for a new challenge” in an extraordinary interview after being withdrawn for the Manchester derby by Ruben Amorim.

The United boss subsequently left the 27-year-old out of the squad for defeats to Tottenham and Bournemouth, fueling the fire that the striker could continue in January.

Mail Sport reported earlier this month how Rashford would be available for £40million, although given his lack of form and game time, the Red Devils may have to drop the asking price.

And Foster, who played for United, West Brom, Watford and Birmingham in the Premier League, went into Rashford and insisted he has not been up to standard for some time.

“Marcus Rashford…” he said his GK cycling podcast. “There are so many people who talk about him and say ‘on his day, on his day.’

“His day is once every 10 games. Really it’s once in 10 games and you can’t have a luxury player in the modern game to give you a game in 10, it’s as simple as that.

“As well as having so much reputation and baggage and everything that comes with it, I don’t think Mikel Arteta wants that anywhere near that Arsenal.

“He needs to get away from Manchester United. I think it will be an MLS (move) or something. It will have to be a massive pay cut.

Rashford signed a bumper £325,000-a-week deal in the summer of 2023 after a stunning 2022-23 campaign, but has since struggled to replicate that form, scoring just 12 Premier League goals over a season and a half. .

And Foster went on to discuss Rashford’s attitude, claiming he felt he lacked the same motivation, while also rejecting suggestions United could bring in as much as £40million for him.

“Once the fire goes out, can you get it back?” he added. “It must come from him.” I don’t think he can take it back.

“Again, you’re talking about money really ruining everything, guys.” Once people have that huge contract and they have those five years in the bank and they have everything they’re going to need for the rest of their lives, it takes (that fire) out of them.

“They were talking about £40m, you know. Not even 10, I’m not paying £10 million… because of everything.

Amorim, meanwhile, refused to rule Rashford out of United’s Boxing Day clash at Wolves, although, speaking ahead of the game, he questioned the influence his camp have on him in terms of the interview.

“It’s a tough situation,” Amorim said. “I understand that these players have a lot of people around them and sometimes they make choices that are not the first idea from the player. I understand, I can separate things.

“I’m always here to help Marcus, like any other player. They have to do what they have to do. They chose to do the interview because it’s not just about Marcus. I understand that.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Amorim added: “As a coach, I just focus on performance and how he trains. Otherwise, it’s better for me and the club to deal with it when the time comes.

“Right now, I’m focused on getting Marcus better. We need a talented guy like Marcus right now. I forgot the interview now and see what I see on the field.

Amorim dropped Rashford from the squad because he was unhappy with the player’s attitude and level of performance in training.

It is understood United will not put their head coach under pressure to pick Rashford, even if continuing to leave him out could hurt his value if he is sold in the January transfer window.
