Watch: Rahul Gandhi shares video of police brutality against protesting BPSC aspirants, blames NDA govt

NEW DELHI: Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Thursday criticized the National Democratic Alliance government in Bihar for resorting to lathi charge on protest the BPSC candidates demanding the cancellation of the December 13 exam for the alleged paper leak.
The Congress MP shared a video of the Bihar Police resorting to baton charge on protesters, calling it “highly shameful and condemnable”.
“I said in the Parliament that in the same way Eklavya’s thumb was cut, in the same way the thumbs of youth are being cut by leaking newspapers. The latest example of this is Bihar. BPSC candidates are raising their voice against paper leak and demanded cancellation of the exam,” he said.
“But to hide their failure, the NDA government is instead resorting to lathi charge on students. This is extremely shameful and condemnable. Playing with the future of students will not be tolerated. We stand with them and will fight to make them right,” he added.

The move also drew criticism from Rashtriya Janata Dal patriarch Lalu Prasad Yadav, who disapproved of the police actions. “Aisa nahi karna chahiye tha. Galat baat hai (He shouldn’t have done that. It’s wrong),” Lalu said.
The protesters claimed that two or three people were injured during the baton charge, but the SSP denied these allegations, saying that no one was injured and only mild force was used to disperse the crowd.
The protesters, who were about to protest peacefully outside the BPSC office, alleged that they were baton-charged with no mercy even towards the girls or Satyam, who is on a fast unto death since December 20.
In response, the district administration issued a statement confirming the use of “mild force” to disperse protesters from a restricted area.
The candidates are calling for the cancellation of all 70 combined (preliminary) contests held on December 13. However, BPSC has announced a single center retest in Patna scheduled for January 4.
