Tamil Nadu BJP chief Annamalai blames DMK for revealing identity of Anna’s sexual assault victim – Tamil Nadu News

BJP’s Tamil Nadu state president K Annamalai has accused the state police of deliberately revealing the identity of the girl who was sexually assaulted on the Anna University campus a day before Christmas Eve.

He blasted the state police and the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party for releasing the details of not only the victim’s identity but also her residential address through the copy of the FIR.

In a post on X, he wrote, “This heinous and reckless act by the Tamil Nadu police is a flagrant violation of the victim’s rights.”

He called it “a despicable act” and condemned the state police for their “willful negligence”. He also accused the ruling DMK of failing to protect women of the state against such “horrific crimes”.

He alleged that it was a “concerted effort” by the state police and the ruling party “to malign the character of the victim to save the failed maintenance of law and order”.

The Tamil Nadu BJP chief also added that he has written to the chairman of the National Commission for Women to take cognizance of the issue and intervene.

A copy of the First Intelligence Report is reportedly being widely circulated on social media, which contains personal details of 19-year-old student at Anna University who was sexually assaulted by two men on December 23.

In an earlier post on X, Annamalai claimed that the accused in the case was a DMK functionary, a charge which was refuted by Law Minister S Reghupathy.
