Annamalai shares photo of Anna University sexual assault accused and Udhayanidhi Stalin to prove links, DMK rejects claims – Tamil Nadu News

BJP state president K Annamalai on Thursday shared a photo on X showing Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin and other DMK leaders with the accused, Gnanasekaran, in the recent case of sexual assault involving a second year engineering student from Anna University.

Annamalai linked the accused to the DMK, advocating a pattern where criminals become closely associated with local party functionaries, allowing them to escape accountability.

In a post on X, he wrote: “All cases registered against him are suppressed and he has leeway by not being listed as a history recorder or kept on the watch list of the local police station “.

The AIADMK also criticized the DMK and alleged that the accused was a functionary of the DMK. AIADMK chief Edapadi Palaniswamy shared a post on X and wrote, “Why did the police, who tracked and arrested those tweeting and commenting, not arrest Gnanasekaran who is already involved in several cases? Is it because he belongs to the ruling DMK?”

AIADMK spokesperson Kovai Sathyan also alleged that the accused was a DMK functionary and that the ruling party was hiding the truth.

Responding to Annamalai’s allegations, Tamil Nadu Law Minister S Regupathy clarified that Gnanasekaran was not even a senior member of the DMK. Regupathy dismissed the claims that the accused was a DMK student wing holder, calling them false. He also addressed the circulation of a photo showing Gnanasekaran next to Udhayanidhi Stalin, stating that it was taken by someone else and there was no connection between them. Regupathy also pointed out that the arrest was made quickly, in less than six hours, and there was no reason for the government to hide details.

Gnanasekaran, 37, a resident of Kottur, who ran a biryani stall near the university campus, was arrested by the Tamil Nadu police for allegedly entering the campus, assaulting the victim’s male friend and assaulting- a sexual in a secluded area.
