NSRI responds to two deaths in Gqeberha

File

A boy, whose age is not known, drowned on the Swartkops River bridge off the N2 in Gqeberha.

NSRI spokesman Craig Lambinon says it appears three children were swimming near the bridge on Christmas Day when they apparently got into trouble.

He says two children could get out of the water, but their friend disappeared and the alarm was raised.

During a search, the child’s body was found and recovered from the water by police divers.

Lambinon says the child’s body has been taken into the care of the Governmental Forensic Services.

The police opened an investigation file.

Meanwhile, Gqeberha Police and Nelson Mandela Bay Fire and Rescue Services responded to reports from Atlas Security on Thursday morning of a 53-year-old local fisherman who was found dead on the rocks.

Lambinon says it appears the man was fishing during the night.

He says that after he did not return home, his wife went looking for him and found him dead on the shore.

She flagged down a security car and the alarm went off.

Upon arrival at the scene, the man’s body was recovered and taken to the care of the Government Forensic Medicine Service.

The police opened an investigation file.
