NEW DELHI: An old video of a young Australian cricketer Sam Konstas expressing his admiration for the greats of our day Virat Kohli went viral, rekindling conversations after the two had an altercation on the field on Opening Day Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) Thursday.
The resurfaced clip shows Konstas stunned by Kohli as a reporter asked him: “If you could get on the phone and find three people texting you, any three people in the world, who would you want them to be.”
Konstas replied with a smile: “Shane Watson will be one, hopefully my dad, and maybe Virat Kohli.”

The incident occurred after the 10th over of Australia’s innings when the players were crossing each other on the field. The 19-year-old debutant played down the incident as an accidental hit but could lead to disciplinary action against the Indian star.
Kohli and Konstas brushed shoulders as they crossed, prompting both players to turn to exchange heated words. Australian teammate Usman Khawaja intervened to alleviate the situation, with the referees on the pitch also intervening.

Speaking to reporters after the day’s play, Konstas dismissed the collision as unintentional.
“I was adjusting my gloves and I think he hit me by mistake. It’s just part of cricket and it can happen when tensions are high,” said the teenager.
