San Antonio police arrest suspect accused of kidnapping and sexually assaulting woman

SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Police Department has arrested a man who officers say used social media to target, kidnap and sexually assault a woman.

Police arrested Jamie Ray Rencher, 47, on Dec. 31, 2024, and charged him with aggravated kidnapping with intent to molest, according to a SAPD news release.

Authorities said Rencher used a social media app to contact the victim and schedule an in-person meeting in the Houston area. After meeting the victim, officers said Rencher destroyed the victim’s phone, tied her up and sexually assaulted her.

San Antonio police said Rencher then drove the woman back to San Antonio with the intention of keeping the victim hidden. However, the woman was able to escape and find help, the press release said.

Court documents indicate Rencher’s charge of aggravated kidnapping with intent to sexually abuse is a first-degree felony. SAPD said additional charges could be filed against Rencher.

Investigators said there may be more victims connected to Rencher. SAPD said the investigation is ongoing.

Rencher was booked into the Bexar County Adult Detention Center just after 10:30 a.m. on Jan. 1.

A Bexar County judge set Rencher’s bond at $250,000, court records show.

The Alamo Rape Crisis Center said coming forward can be a difficult process for victims of sexual assault.

Lauren Aguillon, the center’s digital media and community coordinator, said victims should remember that it takes time.

“You’re never alone,” Aguillon said. “You can always contact us, even if you are not ready to receive help or services. Maybe you just need someone to talk to.”

The center’s 24-hour hotline is 210-349-7273. Other resources for victims of sex crimes can be found here.

Anyone with information about Rencher or anyone who recognizes him is asked to contact SAPD’s Special Victims Unit at 210-207-2313. Callers can remain anonymous.
