The organization works to fight human trafficking

JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) – January is National Human Trafficking Awareness Month and a nonprofit organization is working to help victims.

Hope Found executive director Megan Brown said human trafficking is a crime that hides in plain sight and can often go unrecognized.

“This month, we have speaking engagements that we’re doing in Northeast Arkansas where we’ve been invited to come and teach more people about human trafficking,” she said.

Brown said most trafficking victims are trafficked by someone they know, adding that women and children are the most vulnerable. However, Brown said lately, more men are becoming victims.

“Someone they were in a romantic relationship with, someone who was their boss or even a family member. These traffickers want to get into a relationship with someone,” she said.
