Family asks justice after deaf grandmother was killed by dogs in her yard

Sf. Louis (KMOV/Gray News) – a family from St. Louis demands something to be done after three dogs escaped from a surrounding area and struck a deaf grandmother in her yard.

The Gladys Anthony family is facing the loss of the spine after the 62 -year -old mother and grandmother were killed on January 15 by three dogs in the courtyard of her house in Walnut Park West, KMOV reports.

“He will never be able to see their grandchildren growing because of these dogs. He lost his life because of some dogs, “said the victim’s granddaughter, Vesne Green.

The three dogs involved in the attack escaped through a hole in the fence from their owner’s house, 54 years old, just up, on the street. Daughter Gladys Anthony, Keshia Anthony, says her mother was deaf and did not hear.

“You would think you are safe in your own yard, and she wasn’t. I hate that. Indeed, I hate him easily with passion, “said Keshia Anthony.

Gladys Anthony was seriously injured in the attack. She was taken to the hospital and later died from surgery.

Her husband, 73, suffered several arms and legs during the attack, but expects to be fine. The police say he tried to defend the dogs with a broom and distract them by pulling firearms.

A gofundme has been set up to help the Gladys Anthony family with funeral expenses.

Dogs are now in the Custodia Animal Control. Keshia Anthony demands that they be euthanized, and their owner should be charged.

“This man just here, free. There is no remorse, nothing. You didn’t even come to our home, and you didn’t even show any sympathy or something by the mere fact of what happened, “she said.

According to the law of Missouri, the owner of a dog could be charged with an offense if the dog kills a person.

The Department of Animal Care and Control within the Health Department is investigating. The agency says that, after any incident, an officer will investigate and can declare that the dogs involved are dangerous. The decision will be revised by a supervisor then sent to the health director for a final decision.

If a dog is declared dangerous, the owner has 35 days to comply with the regulations or teach them. If the owner does not comply, the dog will be euthanized.

Green does not agree with the process, especially in the case of her aunt.

“They took a lifetime. It should have been taken down immediately, ”she said.

The head of the Environmental Health Office confirmed that, in 2022, there were two calls to the house where the dogs came from, but did not confirm that it is the same dogs.

ALD. Pamela Boyd (13th) supervises the area where Gladys Anthony lived. She says that, because of this incident, the ordinance and policies in force will analyze more carefully.

“She was in her yard and was vulnerable to animals that should not be simply free,” Boyd said. “I really want to look at how I can do legislation in her honor.”

The health department says that its investigation process ensures that animals are not unnecessary.

Agency’s full statement is as follows:

“The animal care and control section of the Health Department acts in accordance with the Ordinance of the City 71060 when analyzing whether to declare a dangerous dog, because this designation has extensive consequences not only for dogs and their masters, but also for the community. in general. The process presented below is followed for each relevant case to ensure the correctness for all parties involved.

“After receiving a report on a bite or incident, an animal control officer will investigate and gather evidence, including images, videos and interviews. Based on this information, there can be a recommendation to declare the dangerous dog. This statement will be revised by a supervisor and sent to the health director, who will make the final decision. Once the dog has been declared dangerous, the owner will have 35 days to comply with a set of regulations that allow the return of animals or their immediate delivery. If the owner does not comply within the deadline, the dogs will be euthanized humanly.

“This process is in force to ensure the safety of the community and to ensure that any decision of an animal is reasonable and justified. We appreciate the patience of all while the animal control completes the necessary procedures. ”
