Taiping, January 27. – The police have registered statements from two taiping prison officers and 80 prisoners in relation to the death of a prisoner due to the alleged aggression by the prison guards.

The head of Perak Interim Police, DCP Zulkafli Sariaat, said that the authorities received a report on the incident of January 17 and initiated an investigation under section 302 of the Criminal Code.

“For now, no arrests have been made. A transparent investigation on the detainee’s death is in progress and we also examine the cause of death, “he told reporters after launching a 2025 Chinese New Year’s New Year’s road campaign today at South Taiping Toll Plaza on the West Coast Expressway.

Previously, the family of the deceased prisoner gathered in front of the Taiping prison, demanding a correct and thorough investigation to discover the truth.

The son of the prisoner, identified only as GAN, 20 years old, expressed his doubts about the circumstances of his father’s death, invoking discrepancies revealed in the autopsy report issued by Taiping Hospital.

“They (the staff of the prison) contacted my family around 6 pm on January 17, informing us that my father was sent to the hospital’s emergency unit due to breathing difficulties,” he said.

“Unfortunately, he could not be saved. The hospital’s autopsy report revealed that my father had suffered abdominal injuries caused by a blunt object, ”he added.

Gan, the youngest of the three brothers, said that the last time he saw his father was four months ago, before his father was transferred from the Batu Gajah Correction Center on January 16 for an offense drug detention.

Meanwhile, the interim president of the party Bersepakat Hak Rarekyat Malaysia (URIMAI), P. Ramasamy, who was present outside the prison, claimed that the incident did not only involve the death of the detainee, but also charges of aggression of over 100 detainees in arrest. preventive.

“I received this information from the families of the affected. Some detainees have suffered head and body injuries during the incident, ”he said.
