By the end of the 1980s and early 1990s, DK Rao was one of the most feared criminals in Mumbai.

In 2013, he was involved in the case of shooting in Ajay Gosalia and was later arrested for murder. He was released from prison in July 2016, but soon resumed the extortion rocket. In October 2017, he asked for a redemption of Rs 50 Lakh from a builder involved in a project to redevelop the slums, threatening to stop the construction.

In recent years, DK RAO has expanded operations in the redevelopment of slums and in solving property disputes.
