The man asks for a new defense counselor in the case of children's rape

Rapid City, SD (Kota) – a man accused of a first -degree rape of a minor under 13 years old appeared on Monday morning in the 7th Court Court to request a new lawyer.

James Dowty, 62 -year -old, accused of sexual contact with a minor younger than 16 years, requested that his current Todd Love lawyer will be eliminated and be replaced with Angela Colvest. Dowty previously wrote a letter to the court that addresses the communication issues between him and Mr. Love, to whom Love agreed and submitted to withdraw.

Judge Heidi Linngren granted Dowty’s request, but stressed that the trial set for March 27 could be pushed back to give Mrs. Colvest enough time to examine the discovery and prepare for the trial.

The next Dowty’s next appearance is scheduled for February 20.
