Basketball ranking of the female college of the year: Comparison of statistics

Basketball ranking of the female college of the year: Comparison of statistics

About a month ago, I made a comparison of statistics between Juju Watkins, Hannah Hidalgo and Paige Bueckers. Has produced a lot of fun conversations about the weight that statistics have on the player’s race. Now, with Lauren Betts who rise in the conversation, to do the same exercise using the statistics of her circles to see where Betts fits.

There is a lot to unpack here, so let’s choose a few interesting categories and go from there. It is easy to dissect things like points on the game or percentage of goal on the field, which is why the sinking in deep statistics can be fun.

Points at 40 minutes is an interesting statistic, because it goes out. Each player will naturally play a different amount of minutes per match, based on his own conditions, the list, the coach’s decisions, etc. Depositing points over 40 minutes shows a more fair base to judge them. When entering Betts, Watkins and Hidalgo in this category, the results are quite close. Hidalgo drives with 29.5 points, but Watkins is almost 28.9, and Betts is not too behind at 27.7. Also, play the most minutes of these three, with an average of 35.2 per match.

The offensive evaluation is a measure of how many scores of each player’s team to 100 possessions when they are on the floor. It was close, Betts currently has an offensive rating of 124.9, and Hidalgo is at 124.8. Prove how close this race of the player will be. Watkins comes to 117.5. On the other hand, Watkins is the one who leads these three in defensive rating. Watkins is at 71.6, Betts at 74.4 and Hidalgo at 77.1 (remember, smaller numbers are better here). An interesting factor for voters who want to measure the defense of their player from the year.

An easy deciphering statistic, which player has marked the most total points this season? Watkins is currently 518 points this year. After her, Hidalgo has 495 points, and Betts has 384. It is logical that Watkins and Hidalgo are so close, given that their points on the match and the 40 -minute points are quite similar. However, they also registered a large percentage of their 3 -point strokes, a category in which Betts are not. As a post player, Betts does not take the outer blow, which means that its total total points will be naturally smaller than a remote shooter.

One last interesting factor is the team’s record. UCLA is the last undefeated team in the country, at 20-0. For this, they held the ranking no. 1 of the country of November and will probably hold it as long as they will remain undefeated. Does the same logic apply to the player’s race? Betts receives added points to her case because it was a large part of the UCLA undefeated season?

Do the specific losses come into play here too? Notre Dame (no. 3) has two losses: one against no. 17 TCU and one against Utah. USC (no. 7) also has two losses: one against no. 6 (at that time) Notre Dame and one recently against Iowa. Hidalgo has the edge here, because her team defeated Juju?

Certainly, there are so many factors that will choose this award in a tight race.
