Over 1,200 victims of human trafficking in Myanmar be sent to Thailand

Thai authorities say that 1,219 people who have been forced to take part in scams from Myanmar fraud hubs will be transferred to Thailand for protective custody.

It is considered that individuals from 12 different nationalities are among foreigners victimized in Myanmar, who are adjacent to Thailand.

Authorities say people were released until Tuesday in several locations, including Mywaddy District of East Myanmar.

Most of them are said to be Asians. These include 1.041 Chinese, 71 Indonesians and 40 Vietnamese. There are no Japanese resorted on the list.

Starting with the 2021 coup in Myanmar, the scam groups, whose members come from China and other places, have become active in areas near the border with Thailand. There have been a number of cases in which foreigners were limited and forced to take part in criminal activities.

Thai authorities say they will investigate details, such as how foreigners have arrived in Myanmar. They also say that they will accelerate the saving efforts of other foreigners who are believed to be held, including Japanese citizens.
