The lawyers for the US Department of Justice and Mayor Eric Adams appeared before the Federal Dale Judge Dale Ho, on Wednesday after -in Manhattan, pressing their case for five federal corruption and bribery against Adams to be suspended.

Normally, these requests are easily granted when prosecutors and defendants agree, but HO has asked a long series of questions about the reasons for Adams.

“This is a very complicated situation, at least where I stay from,” Ho said. At the end of the meeting, he refused to master from the bench, but said he would issue a decision soon.

Doj moved last week to request his criminal case against Adams, launched by the Department of Justice under the Biden Administration, to be kept.

Top officials of the Trump administration have reported that A Adams, a Democrat, help to help the White House collapse on migrants living in New York, without legal status.

In the courtroom today, Deputy Prosecutor of Doj, Emil Bove, repeatedly stated that Ho had only a limited discretion TO Review the application for dismissal.

Bove, who once occupied President Donald Trump, also said that the decision to suspend the case was largely motivated by the issues of “national security” and Adams’s desire to pursue migrants in New York, who have no legal status. .

During the question of Ho, Bove said that the cancellation of a criminal trial will allow Adams to “return to work unloaded and unstoppable.”

DOJ’s dismissal memory sent in February.

“(T) he in progress has unjustifiably restricted the ability of Mayor Adams to dedicate full attention and resources to illegal immigration and violent crime that have escalated according to the previous administration policies.” The Doj memory stated.

Critics say Adams Case has been inclined by politics

The critics inside the Doj suggested the decision to suspend the case came as part of an inappropriate “Quid Pro quo”. At least seven Lawyers of the New York and Washington Department of Justice Department, DC, resigned rather than going with the business.

Answering Ho’s questions, however, Adams repeatedly said that there is no explicit compensation, linking his cooperation with the Trump administration on applying the Immigration in New York, to a long treatment by DOJ.

Ho also mentioned that Doj reserves the right to charge Adams again for these charges in the future. Asked if he felt threatened or pressed in any way, Adams replied, “No, your honor.”

Ho also noted that three former federal prosecutors submitted a legal brief to reject the Doj offer to suspend the file against Adams. They claimed that the movement reflected an improper political influence on a criminal case.

“Federal prosecutors should not make decisions of criminal accusation based on political associations, political activities or personal loyalty.” They wrote.

During the judicial procedures on Wednesday, the Doj Bove rejected this request as a “partisan noise”.

Speaking with reporters before hearing, Adams sounded optimistic, describing the procedure as “part of the process”. In recent days, he has made frequent public appearances throughout the city, promising progress on infrastructure, economy and other priorities.

While Adams’s legal fate hangs on Ho’s decision, his political future hangs and in balance. Four of his first resigned this week because of Adams’s scandals and his in -depth links with Trump’s immigration policies. Adams also faces a democratic primary challenged in June, followed by the general elections of November.

Meanwhile, the Democratic Governor of New York, Kathy Hoch, considered an Adams’s political ally for a long time, weighs if she will use her authority to get her out of office.

Hoch met on Tuesday with top political and civic leaders in Manhattan to discuss Adams’s political future. He has not yet announced his decision.
