Sumter deputies arrest the accused man to break at home, trying to sexually attack the woman

Sumter Co., SC (Wolo) -The Sheriff’s office in Sumter County arrested a man accused of entering a house and tried to sexually aggress the woman from the inside. According to the authorities, around 1 o’clock in the morning, Monday morning, Markus Burroughs, 18 years old, entered a house in Sumter County, trying to commit criminal sexual conduct. Officials say they responded at home, after the victim’s woman called deputies saying she woke up to find Burroughs in her bedroom trying to sexually assault her.

Authorities say Burroughs ran away from home before reaching, at which point the deputies secured the house and started looking for it. The victim was taken by EMS to Prisma Health Tuomey. Investigators say that after witnessing witnesses and gathered additional evidence, they asked for a search warrant for Burroughs.

On Wednesday, February 19, 2025, the deputies executed the search warrant at Burroughs Home, along Dalzell’s Fish Road and say that they were able to take him out without incident. He remains behind bars at the detention center of the sheriff in Sumter County, where the authorities say that his obligation has been refused.

Sheriff Anthony Dennis says he was tried by the news of the attack, but grateful for the rapid response of the deputies, saying,

“The confidentiality and peace of this house and the family were taken on Monday morning. This crime seems to be an isolated incident, but it is another memory of evil in our world. They should also remind the criminals that the good people in Sumter County, together with our deputies, will not tolerate these evil acts and that we will follow and bring to the punishment everyone that threatens our community. “

This case remains under the investigation.
