Witnesses statements in case against 7 Chinese nationals detail the deplorable living

Johannesburg – some statements of witnesses in the case of seven Chinese nationals arrested under accusations related to human trafficking have the living and work conditions, supported by the victims.

On Tuesday afternoon, the High Court of Johannesburg issues a decision against the group facing 160 accusations, including abduction, trafficking in persons, bondage of debts and violations of labor laws.

All seven were arrested in 2019, after a multidisciplinary operation discovered a traffic ring, which led to saving 91 Resortisters from Malawi, including 37 children, in the central business district.

The testimony of the witnesses revealed to the High Court of Johannesburg, the frightening conditions that the victims endured.

These include 12 -hour working days and a pay pay below a minimum of approximately R1,000 per month.

It is assumed that some of the victims are still due to untreated wounds suffered by operating machines without sufficient training.

It is assumed that the workers were not allowed to leave the factory or use their mobile phones.

The witness also claims that they were forced to work on public holidays and received a R10 incentive to work complete 12 hours on Sunday.

“They were not even allowed to use the baths during the service. If you go to the toilet they will deduct R20 from your salary. ”

The court continues to hear more evidence against the accused, who is stoically in the dock.
