Wausu man sentenced to the federal prison for role in the drug trafficking organization

Wausau, wis. (WSAW) – A Wausau man was sentenced to 14 years in federal prison for the management of a methamphetamine and cocaine trafficking organization.

In February 2022, the working group of narcotics in Wisconsin Central began to investigate a traffic organization operating in Wausau. Tommie L. Haney, 44, was identified as a local leader of the organization. The investigation for several years involved the confiscation of drug -loaded packages from the post office, procurement controlled by drugs and seizures of firearms and large quantities of medicines from residence searches. From the investigation, the officers believe that the drug trafficking organization distributes kilograms in the amount of methamphetamine and cocaine.

Haney worked closely with suppliers, arranged bulk shopping, and accompanying others to get drugs. He also helped set drug prices and recruited additional members in the organization. Haney has provided and directed the activities of several regional drug distributors. He also distributed drugs himself.

At the conviction, US district judge, William M. Conley, said Haney was part of a substantial drug conspiracy that caused damage to the Wausau community. Judge Conley also said that the amount of drugs involved in the case justified a long sentence.

An eight other eight were also accused of this drug trafficking organization. L. Kumbera Teala was sentenced to conspiracy for the distribution of cocaine and methamphetamine and sentenced to 54 months of federal imprisonment. Shandel L. Mohr was convicted of conspiracy for the distribution of cocaine and methamphetamine and sentenced to 12 months and 1 day in federal prison. Quo Vadis Lewis was convicted of conspiracy to distribute 500 grams or more of methamphetamine and cocaine and holding firearms as a crime and has been sentenced to 12 and a half years. Shelby Gutch pleaded guilty of conspiracy for the distribution of methamphetamine and cocaine on January 7, 2025 and concluded a 24 -month diversion agreement. Troy C. Olsen was sentenced to conspiracy for the distribution of methamphetamine and cocaine and was sentenced to 45 months of federal imprisonment. Craig C. Gates was convicted of holding cocaine for distribution and holding a firearm loaded in a drug trafficking crime and was sentenced to 106 months of federal imprisonment. Edwin Lewis and Samuel A. Teague have declared guilty and are scheduled to be convicted in the coming months.
