The statement comes after a big jury accused Kimberly Sochia, 29 years old, from Canandaigua and Thomas Eves, 21, from Geneva, adding them to those accused of Nordquist’s death. The two were arrested last week and accused of killing the second degree in accordance with the status of depraved indifference. Their case will now go directly to the Ontario County Court.

Authorities say that Nordquist, a Transgender man from Minnesota, was reported missing on February 9th. His remains were later found in Yates county, and investigators believe that he endured months of physical and psychological abuse before being killed in Ontario County. His body was moved in an attempt to hide the crime.

Jim Ritts, the lawyer of the Ontario District, called the case “beyond depravat”, which describes the prolonged Nordquist suffering before his death. While some community members have asked officials to classify killing as a hate crime because of Nordquist’s gender identity, law enforcement said there is no current evidence indicating prejudice as a reason.

The investigation remains in progress, and officials encourage anyone who has information to contact New York State Police.
