Washing TK124.82CR: Bismillah Group MD, president closed for 12 years

A court in Dhaka today sentenced the general manager of the Bismillah Group, Khaza Soleiman Anwar Chowdhury, the wife and president of his group, Nawrin Hasib and six to 12 years of rigorous imprisonment, in a case submitted for washing TK124.82CROR from Jamuna Bank Ltd.

Other convicted are the father of Soleman, Shafiqul Anwar Chowdhury, Deputy Director General of the Bismillah Group, Akbar Aziz Muttaki, General Manager Mohammad Abul Hossain Chowdhury, manager Riazuddin Ahmed Shafi, president of the network, president of Akhter Hossain and Jamuna Bank.

Judge Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun from the court of 5 special judge in Dhaka pronounced the sentence in their absence in the courtroom.

Also, the judge fined him TK248.85 Crore and asked them to submit the money to the government treasury within 60 days.

Also, the judge ordered the authorities concerned to confiscate all the mobile and immovable properties of the convicts in favor of the state.

The punishment of the fugitive will be effective from the day of arrest or teaching, the judge said in his decision.

The judge paid another two-the very main assistant vice-president of Jamuna Bank, Mohammad Morshedur Rahman and SM Zahid Islam so that their involvement was not proven.

Previously, the criminal prosecution and the defense concluded the arguments, and the judge registered statements with 22 criminal prosecution witnesses, including the applicant, in case.

The deputy director of ACC, Amin, filed the file against 10 people, including Soleiman, his wife, father and seven with the Motijheel Police Section on November 3, 2013.

On September 10, 2018, another court in Dhaka sentenced nine people, including Soleiman Anwar and Nawrin Hasib, to 10 years in prison in a case of money laundering.

ACC has submitted 11 more cases against 54 people about the hijacking of about 12 billion t from five banks by the Bismillah group with Ramna, Motijheel and the New Market police stations on November 3, 2013.
