Hanson fled from the scene and was followed by a second victim. He threw the weapon before being arrested.

Authorities say the victim had an active protection order in Virginia against Hanson, after making previous threats to kill him.

“Mr. Hanson presented a great danger to the community and for this victim of domestic violence, which has already held an active protection order in Virginia, meant to protect it,” said Charlie Smith, Frederick County Lawyer. “I am satisfied with the fact that the court convicted the defendant in a way that incapacitates and ensures his safety.”

The Court highlights emotional injury and continuous danger

“You have caused a significant emotional evil to the two victims, as you have physical endangered,” said Judge Julie Solt. “I do not know how someone could choose to kill the parent of his own children. This court does not trust that you could be in society as a citizen who respects the law.”

“My family and I were deeply affected,” the court victim said. “My children will now grow up without being in a constant state of fear and threat of violence.”
