Police are investigating the stabbing at the Livingston County Correctional Facility

New York State Police responded to a stabbing on Oct. 26 at the Groveland Correctional Facility in Livingston County.

Rashawn Belle, 36, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police believe his death was caused by an altercation.

A second victim, who was in custody, was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital for non-life threatening injuries. This victim has not been identified.

According to New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision records, Belle was an inmate serving 2-4 years for attempted assault.
