M’Sian trafficked tradesmen need more protection

COMMENT | Every month, the heroes of the civil society in Malaysia save their fellow citizens from the horrors of modern slavery in the scam compounds in South -East Asia.

They do this without advertising and seek fame.

In their rescue missions, they often save victims from other countries in the region, especially those in Indonesia that reach them because of the common language.

Currently, on average, 20 victims of Malaysian traffic are saved monthly by the initiatives of civil society.

While the middle bureaucrats in the Malaysian embassies do their best to help these efforts, the embassies do not have an adequate budget to offer even pocket money whose lives have been irretrievably affected.
