The Grand Junction man arrested in connection with multiple shootings and theft

Grand Junction, there. (KJCT) – Deputies with the Sheriff’s office in Mesa County (MCSO) responded to the reports and shootings pulled on February 23.

At about 1:28, the deputies responded to block 400 out of 23 Road, where it was reported that a man broke into the building and fired several rounds to one of the occupants of the church.

The deputies, supported by officers from the Grand Junction Police Department (GJPD) who were in the area, surrounded the building. An initial perimeter search revealed that the front door and the window were shattered. At 1:40 AM, a shelter notification was issued instead of residents living in a unique radius of block 400 out of 23. The law enforcement looked for the suspect’s area.

Around 2 o’clock in the morning, several firearms were heard from block 500 out of 23 roads.

The dispatcher received a call from the owner of the house by saying that a man broke into their house and fired several rounds to the homeowners, in response, the homeowners returned the fire according to the MCSO. The man then ran away from home.

The MCSO Special Arms and Tactics (SWAT) team was held in the house and escorted the owners of caution.

At 2:08 AM, another shelter in place was sent to residences at a distance of 500 blocks of 23 roads.

Moments later, a nearby residence called the shipment to report a man who matches the suspect’s description, who was cheering on the car door, on the 2300 block of South Rim Drive.

The deputies, the GJPD officers and the State Patrol troops in Colorado surrounded the suspect and were able to take him into arrest.

Dakota Mortensen, 22, from the Grand Junction, Colorado, is currently owned at the detention unit of Mesa County for the following charges:

  • 3 threatening counts – real/simulated weapon, offense 5
  • 3 Assault charges – Grade 2 reckless with serious bodily injury with deadly weapon, offense 3
  • 3 counts of criminal attempt
  • 2 Degree 1 grade charges – aggression or threats or is armed, offense 3
  • 2 charges of criminal mistakes – $ 2,000 – $ 5,000, crime 6
  • Entering a police officer, offense 5
  • 3 accusations of reckless danger, offenses 2
  • 2 charges of forbidden use of weapons, offenses 1
