The border row rises in Belagavi that affects the bus services between Karnataka and Maharashtra

The bus services between Karnataka and Maharashtra have been affected due to the attack on bus drivers on both sides, against the background of the Border Row cut in Belagavi in the last two days.

The decades -old dispute reappeared on February 21, when a bus driver and a conductor were beaten because he was supposed to not talk to Marathi in Marihal in Belagavi.

The bus conductor told the police complaint that a girl asked for a ticket in Marathi. When she said she didn’t meet Marathi and asked him to speak in Kannada, she and her masculine friend attacked him.

At Marihal, a group of young people intercepted the bus and defeated the conductor.

While the police arrested four people for the attack, the conductor was also reserved for “indecent behavior” with the minor girl for a complaint filed by the girl, the reporters of the Belagavi police commissioner, Yada Martin Marbaniang, told reporters.

In an act of reprisals, the mistakes attacked and blackened a bus driver Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) Bhasekar Jadhav at Guyilal, in the Hiriyur Tluk in Chitradurga district on February 22.

The police arrested a few that would have been involved in the crime.

Following the incident, the Minister of Transport Maharashtra, Pratap Sarnaik, ordered the suspension of state transport buses to Karnataka. Sarnaik said the bus Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC), which was located in Bengaluru in Mumbai, was attacked in Chitradurga around 9.10 PM on February 21 by Pro-Kannada activists.

On February 23, an ultra-luxurious bus belonging to Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) was disfigured with slogans such as “Jai Maharashtra”, “Marathi” and “Maharashtra Navnirman Sena”, written on black paint.

Ksrtc also minimized bus services to Maharashtra following the incident.

“We have limited the number of buses that go to Maharashtra for now and take all caution measures to normalize the situation,” said a senior PTI officer in North West Karnataka Transport Corporation (NWKRTC).

He said he was in touch with his Maharashtra counterpart to provide smooth bus services between the two states.

The bus conductor was also reserved in accordance with the Child Protection Law against sexual crimes (POCSO) following a complaint filed by the girl.

Belagavi has a substantial marathonic population and a section of them often demands that this border district be merged with Maharashtra.

The Karnataka government and the local population Kannada strictly oppose this request.

In order to assert his power, the Karnataka government built Suvvarna Vidhana Soudha in Belagavi, where once a year he holds the legislative session.
