Fifteen Malaysians Savedi were forced to be crooked online in Myanmar, says IGP

Kuala Lumpur: Police’s investigations have revealed that 15 Malaysians had fallen victim in scams of work and were forced to work as online scams in Myanmar before recently reinvigorated, say Tan Razarudin Husain.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) said that individuals, 12 men and three women, between the ages of 21 and 45, were forced to be computer and mobile telephone technicians, as part of the scam operations in Myanmar from 2023 and 2024.

Bernama reported on Monday (February 24) that the 15 Malaysians were successfully brought home and were handed over to the police for their statements to be registered.

“We are still conducting additional investigations under Section 12 of anti-traificks in persons and anti-account-accounting of the 2007 migrants (Law 670) and we have registered the statements of the 15 persons and have been delivered to their families.

“Currently, they all cooperated during the registration of their statements,” he said when he was contacted by Bernama here on Tuesday (February 25).

The medical checks found no injuries on the victims, he added.

“The checks of the immigration department have discovered that all the victims left the country legally by rolled routes,” Razarudin said.

According to the Foreign Ministry, the 15 victims were said among 261 victims saved from the scam union and handed over to the Thai authorities on February 12 – Bernama
