The police arrested two more people, including the supposed main, in relation to the robbery and molesting of passengers in a moving bus along the Dhaka-Tangail highway.
The arrests were made during the raids held in different locations Monday night. With these last arrests, now five people were detained in connection with the bus robbery.
MD Mizanur Rahman, a superintendent of police (SP) in Tangail, shared these details during a press briefing at his office today.
Among those arrested, MD Alamgir (34 years old) was caught in Purbadhala, Netrokona district, while his younger brother, MD Rajib (21 years old), was arrested in Ashulia, Dhaka.
The police said MD Alamgir is the leader of the robbery.
During the arrests, the authorities recovered 4,200 TK in cash and two silver rings in Alamgir. In addition, 10 mobile phones, several bracelets, three bags and two knives used in the robbery were confiscated from Rajib.
Last Friday, the detective Police of Tangail arrested three suspects from Savar in connection with the robbery. Among them, MD Sabuj (30 years old) and Sharifuzzaman Alias ​​Sharif (28 years old) provided confessional statements to a local court on Saturday, admitting their involvement in crime.
The third arrested, Shahid Islam Muhit (29 years old), was placed in a five-day re-examination.
During the press briefing, SP said that based on the information provided by Muhit during his detention, the robbery, Alamgir and his younger brother, Rajib, were later arrested.
He added that Alamgir and Rajib have recognized their involvement in the bus robbery during preliminary query.
“We intend to seek their restraint to continue to question further information about robbery,” he said.
Of the two, Alamgir is accused in at least three other cases of robbery deposited at different police stations in Dhaka and around it.
In response to journalists’ questions about the alleged rape of a female passenger, SP said a detective team in Tangail has already questioned passengers, including female passengers. “The preliminary investigation has revealed incidents of molestening. However, the problem is still under investigation,” he added.
On February 17, a group of robbers robbed the passengers and molested the women in a bus travel traveling from Gabtoli from Dhaka to Rajshahi.
Three days after the incident, a passenger named Omar Ali filed a file on Thursday evening at the Mirzapur Police Station.
Meanwhile, the Islam Site, officer to the Baraigram Police Section of Nores, and MD Atikuzzaman, the service officer of the Mirzapur Police Section, were suspended for negligence at work.
