The new Kentucky registration plates that show the mental health flag, the leadership hopes

Louisville, Ky – the Kentucky community meets in a big way – the change of leadership – due to the new registration plates that honor the life of a young man who left too soon.

Next time you drive around the tri-state, look for a green registration plate and then receive one of them.

“It started with the creation of the Mental Health Flag, which we worked on this in 2019 for the most part and took us about a year to develop it and worked with a lot of local mental health and psychiatrists And psychologists and artists and teachers and students, “said Molly Jones.

Molly Jones is the general manager of Pete Foundation to prevent depression. But more than that, she is the mother Pete Jones.

“I have five children, four boys and a girl, and Pete was my son. He was an identical twin, probably the fourth of the boys, because he is the youngest twins. So he was just a great child,” Jones said.

Molly and the Jones family say that Pete spoke about his depression, but they never thought they would lose him at the age of 23.

“In the early 19s, (Pete) spoke to me. He was looking for help, but at 23, he decided to end his life. He was such a good person and took us all by surprise; his brothers and his sister were shocked.

Now, the members of the Pete family work together to make sure that no one suffers in silence.

Together, he organizes events to raise awareness of the community at their house in Louisville, Kentucky, develop educational materials and help facilitate research.

“We feel that the emphasis should be on youth, because in this way, we change it for generations. And so, you know, we started a music festival to bring together people about it, and now we actually move to offer more resources for people, so that they can get a better understanding of how to look for care. ” Jones said.

Their most recent initiative is the registration plates, which present the mental health flag. The flag was developed for the first time in 2020 and serves as a symbol. The design reflects a sunrise and a change from dark to light.

“There is hope and there is a renewal, and there is that brighter day and also the shape of the curve to represent, such as hug and hug,” Jones said.

Molly says that these shades are different stages of our emotional journey and hopes that, as we see more and more of these plates on our roads, others will feel both seen and heard.

Plates are currently available for $ 44. USD 10 directly accepts the Pete Foundation.

“$ 10 are returning to us, and we use it to provide QPR training, which is the question, belief, consult. And can be thought of as a CPR for a mental or emotional crisis. And it is just a 60 to 90 minutes and it’s a very good training, “Jones said.
