Former football player u of m de m ukis, brother older accused of crime

Princeton, NJ (Wilx) – a former Michigan University football player was killed on Saturday in a Princeton apartment, New Jersey. Joseph Hertgen, 27, was found dead in the apartment, with signs of trauma and lacerations of the blunt force, according to the Prosecutor’s Office of Mercer County.

Hertgen’s older brother Matthew Hertgen, 31, turned to 911 on Saturday night and was arrested after the authorities said he was found with a golf club and a knife on the spot. Authorities believe that he is responsible for Joseph’s death, as well as for the death of a cat found in the apartment.

Matthew Hertgen has been accused of murder of the first degree, various third and fourth degree and cruelty of the third degree. If he is convicted of the first degree murder, Hertgen faces 30 years of life in the state prison.

The exact cause of Joseph Hertgen and the way of death is waiting for the results of an autopsy. Joseph played football at the University of Michigan for 2016-2019. Matthew Hertgen also played collegial football at Wesleyan University in Connecticut. The brothers grew up in Toms River, New Jersey, where they were high school athletes.
