Police probes with attacks for attack, couple extortion

The police in the state of IMo, northeast Nigeria, launched an investigation into the alleged extortion and aggression of a couple by the state police operators.

Police spokesman in Imo, Henry Okoye, revealed this in a statement on Monday.

Police investigation

Reacting, Mr. Okoye, a deputy police superintendent, said that the state police command has begun an investigation of the incident.

The police spokesman said the command contacted the couple, who reported the incident to the police authorities.

“As a result, an investigation is now underway to identify those responsible for possible arrests and actions,” he said.

“The public will be updated on the progress of our investigation as it takes place.”

Mr. Okoye said that the police command was aware of the public discussions around the incident, especially on social networks.

He assured that the command under the leadership of the police commissioner, Aboki Danjuma, will remain dedicated to supporting professionalism and responsibility, while ensuring public safety.

“Anyone has useful information that could help the investigation is encouraged to contact the public relations department,” he said.

The police spokesman has asked the state residents to report cases of incorrect conduct, harassment or extort to the response unit or the IGP XSquad unit.
