Police probes with attacks for attack, couple extortion

The police in the state of IMo, northeast Nigeria, launched an investigation into the alleged extortion and aggression of a couple by the state police operators.

Police spokesman in Imo, Henry Okoye, revealed this in a statement on Monday.

A socializing user, Jennifer Kingsley, last week, uploaded a video on Tiktok.

In the clip, Mrs. Kingsley claimed that on February 20, while they were heading to pick up her child from school, she and her husband were assaulted by some police officers still identified in the patrol in Amakohia, Owerri.

She added that, during the attack, the operators had extorted n150,000 from it.

Police investigation

Reacting, Mr. Okoye, a deputy police superintendent, said that the state police command has begun an investigation of the incident.

The police spokesman said the command contacted the couple, who reported the incident to the police authorities.

Mr. Okoye said that the police command was aware of the public discussions around the incident, especially on social networks.

He assured that the command under the leadership of the police commissioner, Aboki Danjuma, will remain dedicated to supporting professionalism and responsibility, while ensuring public safety.
