The letter from CEO Palms West addresses security issues

Loxahatchee, fla. – WPTV obtained a letter signed by CEO HCA Florida Palms West Hospital, Jason Kimbrell, which seems to have been sent to the hospital staff behind brutal beats of a Palms West nurseidentified by her family as Leelamma Lal.

The letter, which starts with “dear colleagues”, addresses the security issues supported by the incident.

“I want to take a moment to recognize the deep pain and concern that we all feel after a recent attack on our beloved nurse. Leela. Knowing that our colleague was the victim of this meaningless, meaningless type of violence. All for me personally as CEO, “reads the letter.

The sheriff’s office said that the incident took place at HCA Florida Palms West Hospital on February 18 at 13:20

Investigators said a 33 -year -old patient, Stephen ScantleburyWhich was cared for based on the Baker law, “unexamably attacked” Lal in a patient room on the third floor.

“Essentially, every bone in the victim’s face is broken, and the victim is likely to lose the use of both eyes,” says the statement.

Her daughter, Cindy Joseph, and son, Chris Lal, said WPTV Had several questions about the event handling by the hospitalIncluding the level of security at the hospital and why Scantlebury was admitted first.

As WPTV has reported, Palms West is not a Baker Act receipt facility.

“I was very sad and very angry that this happened at work, where it should be safe, where he gave his life to this hospital for 20 years,” Joseph said. “I expected them to take care of her, to give her the correct protections she needed.”

In the letter, Kimbrell said in 24 hours, the hospital “made a thorough interdisciplinary review of the incident” led by “their quality, safety and security teams”, which found all their “procedures and policies were followed” .

“Like you, I wonder how this could have happened,” Kimbrell wrote.

Kimbrell continued to say that the State Agency for the Health Administration or AHCA visited the unit and “did not require any correction to the policies or procedures in the incident.”

“This was an act of indescribable violence and we are firmly behind the justice pursuit,” Kimbrell said.

The WPTV investigation team addressed AHCA to confirm the visit and to get a copy of the report. The agency has not yet responded to our investigation to confirm the visit, but told us that a copy of a report can be available in 15 days.

Kimbrell also wrote that the hospital has implemented the following resources as a result of the incident:

  • “We will continue to host the City Hall discussions and meetings to speak openly about this situation and to hear from you about the safety of the job. Also, I also drive the daily office hours, if you prefer to talk to me in private.”
  • “The counseling services and peer support are available through the EAP. Father Gabriel, the pastoral director who for the HCA East Florida Division will be at Palms West Hospital who offers spiritual and emotional support services.”

In conclusion, Kimbrell said that HCA Healthcare has a “zero tolerance policy” for work violence and that an additional safety protocol may be implemented.

“While we have done significant measures, such as increasing physical security measures and implementing our efforts to prevent violence at work, this incident clearly shows: more must be done,” Kimbrell wrote.
