A Lawrence police lieutenant was accused in Shawnee County with a number of offenses for an alleged incident at a basketball game.

The tax documents submitted on February 7 indicate that Lt. Myrone Grade, the executive officer of the Lawrence Police Department for Diversity and Community involvement, is accused of battery on another man on January 27 in Shawnee County.

According to a rejection motion filed by Grady’s lawyer, Shaye Downing, Lawrence, Grade acted in self -defense and should be immune at criminal prosecution. Downing’s motion says Grady participated in his child’s basketball play at a local high school in Shawnee County, when the alleged victim approached in a threatening and volatile manner. “

Downing says Grady has used a minimum force to protect himself from being physically attacked, and she asks the court to organize a probative hearing in terms of immunity.

Grade, 51 years old, was called to appear in the crime division of the Shawnee County Court on April 30.

A LPD spokesman told The Journal-World that Grady told her chief Rich Lockhart about the immediate incident.

“Lt. Grady was outside the service outside our jurisdiction, “said Laura McCabe, spokesman. “In alignment with our policy, we will not carry out a complete internal investigation until any court procedure is concluded.”

Grady, an award -winning officer, worked at LPD for almost 20 years, when he was appointed the first executive officer of the Department for Diversity and Community involvement in 2022 as being that of Journal-Lumea reported. Grady has held a number of LPD functions, including as a 2008 school resource officer at South Middle School and Lawrence High School. In 2011 he was named Kansas Sro of the year.
