Sudan air tragedy: The military plane crash supports 46 lives, injured 10 near Khartoum – World News

The number of death due to a Sudanese military plane accident in OmduMman increased at least 46, confirmed officials on Wednesday (February 26). The Khartoum Media Office reported that 10 others were injured in the accident.

Antonov aircraft went down Tuesday while trying to take off from the Wadi Sayidna air base, located north of Omduman, the Sudan military reported. The accident also caused damage to several houses in the Karrari district in the city.

While the army previously confirmed victims among both the staff of the armed forces and the civilians, did not specify the numbers or the cause of the accident. Some of the bodies of the victims were transferred to the NAU Hospital in OmduMman, according to the Ministry of Health.

Sudan was caught by the 2023 Civil War, when the confrontations between the military and the paramilitary forces of rapid support (RSF) escalated into the large-scale conflict. The ongoing war devastated urban areas and was marked by severe human rights abuses, including mass rapes and ethnically led killings, which the United Nations and international rights have classified as war crimes and crimes against humanity, especially in Darfur.

In recent months, the Sudanese army has gained ground against RSF in Khartoum and other regions. Meanwhile, RSF, which has control over the majority of Darfur, has claimed the responsibility for lowering a military aircraft on Monday in Nyala, the capital of the province of South Darfur.
