What does “alumni and alumnae” mean?

The word “student/student” is derived from the Latin word “alere”, “to feed” and means “assistance” or “student”. “Alumni/Alumnae”, the plural form of “alumnus/alumna”, literally means “the fed”. For reasons of gender equality, we use the “student” neutral term, which has become established in the world of English. In the US, the term “alumn” has been used for graduates or former students of higher education institutes for over 200 years, and the first association of alums in the US-American has been founded in 1821. In Germany, it is only in the past A few years in which the activities of the city have become established at universities and research institutes.
