Navi Mumbai International Airport under the DGCA review for operational training

The General Directorate of Civil Aviation (DGCA) organized on Tuesday (February 25) a crucial meeting with the interested key parties of Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) to evaluate its preparation to obtain an aerodrome license.

This certification is essential for the airport to start commercial operations, ensuring compliance with all the necessary safety, operational and infrastructure standards, Financial Express reported.

NMIA is managed by NMIAL, a common association between Adani Holdings Airport (AAHL) and City and Industrial Development Corporation in Maharashtra (CIDCO).

This meeting was determined by the rejection of the NMIAL aerodrome license request, submitted in December 2024, due to non -compliance with the regulatory guides, Fe reported the quotation of sources.

Meanwhile, DGCA has also received a request for an aerodrome license at NOIDA International Airport, which is managed by Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL), a branch owned by Zurich International AG.

The regulatory body is currently examining this request.

Both airports require the DGCA certification before the beginning of the operations, and their requests indicate that they are closer to the operational training.

Both NMIA and Noida International Airport have successfully performed the first flight validation tests, marking a significant stage in the certification process.

These tests have included technical evaluations, take -offs and landing maneuvers to ensure compliance with safety, operational and reliability standards.

The data collected are now examined by DGCA. An official explained that the regulatory approval for aerodrome licenses usually lasts up to 90 days, following a comprehensive assessment of these validation tests.

Both airports faced several delays in commissioning, including Navi Mumbai International Airport, which has encountered several inconvenience.

However, the Adani group stated earlier that Nmia is established for commissioning in April 2025.

The development of these two major airports is expected to significantly ease congestion to existing air travel centers, while improving regional and international connectivity.

The first phase of Navi Mumbai International Airport will host over 20 million passengers annually, with future expansion plans targeting 90 million passengers and 2.5 million tonnes of goods by 2032.

NOIDA International Airport will begin operations with a capacity of 12 million passengers per year, warning up to 70 million passengers in the subsequent phases.
