Over 130,000 electric stoves mentioned in Canada due to fire risk in front buttons

Health Canada warns the risk of fire represented by a series of LG free freedom intervals after receiving incident reports caused by accidental activation of the front buttons.

In a recall notice published on Wednesday, the Agency said the buttons that control the hob elements could be activated by “accidental contact by humans or pets”, which leads to a fire risk.

Starting February 12, the company has received eight reports on incidents in Canada and two reports on injuries, “including a minor reduction and a minor burn,” says advisory.

Over 137,000 units of the affected stoves were sold in Canada between 2016 and June 2024.

The LG electrical intervals included in recall include those with five surface elements on the survey and buttons mounted on the front of the range just above the oven door.

Can be found a complete list of affected model numbers and serial numbers on the opinion.

To see if your electric range is part of the recall, look inside the oven door or the storage drawer at the bottom of the oven to find the model number, then check if it fits with the ones listed in the recall.

Company to send warning tags

If your electric range is one of the devices included in the recall, this does not mean you have to throw your stove – consulting states that while customers should immediately contact LG Electronics Canada Inc., they can continue to use their range while waiting.

Customers will receive a free warning label and placement instructions after warning the company that they have an affected model.

“The label reminds consumers to use the LG OUT/Control lock function on the interval control panel to disable the heating elements when the interval is not used,” says the company on its website.

The company also asked customers holding these models to view an instruction video contributing how to use the control block.

The LG electric intervals were also sold in the US, with about 500,000 affected models sold between 2015 and January 2025, according to a reminder Posted earlier this month by the US Consumer Safety Commission.

At least 86 reports on unintentional activation of the front mounted buttons were deposited in the US, said the reminder, with at least eight minor wounds reported and five fires began due to the affected intervals, totaling over 340,000 USD in material damage. Three of the fires reported that they involved pets deaths.
