Deputies respond to burglary and make arrests to theft, drug holder and other accusations – Douglas now

On February 25, 2025, the deputies responded to NorthSide Mobile Home Park on the 441 North highway, in response to a burglary that has already taken place. Upon their arrival, the deputies spoke to the victim, who reported that Vernon Smith assaulted.

The victim suspected that Smith had entered her house and stole several objects. During a verbal altercation, the victim reported that Smith, 63, physically attacked her, which caused a witness to intervene and separate them. Just a few days before this incident, the victim was released from prison in Wheeler and informed the deputies that her mobile house was shattered while it was incarcerated. She reported that many articles were missing, including a box of jewelry filled with jewelry, clothing, footwear and various electronics.

The deputies asked Smith, who acknowledged that he lost control over his emotions and attacked his daughter. He also acknowledged that he and Sierra Simmons, 31, also from Douglas, entered the house to take over a photo album belonging to his late wife. Smith was arrested for a simple battery, and the deputies then located Sierra Simmons. She denied any involvement in burglary and refused to allow a search for her residence for the reported articles disappeared by the victim. During the investigation, the officers found out that the stolen reported articles could have been in Simmons’s residence. The deputies obtained a search warrant, carried out a search for the residence and discovered a quantity of drugs. The drug unit then took over the investigation.

As a result of the investigation, Simmons was arrested and charged with theft by receiving and two charges of holding a controlled substance. Smith is experiencing simple battery fees and theft.

Sheriff Fred Cole continues to emphasize his commitment to citizens of Coffee County. “We will not accept the production, distribution or use of illegal substances in Coffee County County. Residents and children in this county are based on law enforcement to ensure their safety and to tireless fight the drugs in our community. We hired ourselves to do this, a case at some point, ”said Cole Sheriff.
