Health Canada recalls over 130,000 LG stoves for the fire risk from defective buttons

Health Canada has issued a warning on certain LG free freedom electrical intervals due to a fire hazard caused by the accidental activation of the front buttons. The counselor, posted on Wednesday, follow the reports on the incidents in which the elements of the hob have been activated unintended by humans or pets, reports CBS News.
According to Health Canada, the problem affects over 137,000 units sold in the country between 2016 and June 2024. On February 12, LG Electronics Canada He received eight reports about such incidents, including two minor wounds – a cut and a burn.
Accidental activation raises safety issues
The affected models have five elements of hob and control buttons positioned in front, just above the oven door. If they are accidentally hit, these buttons can start the heating elements, representing a fire risk.
A similar recall was issued in the United States, where about 500,000 units were sold between 2015 and January 2025. The US Consumer Safety Commission reported at least 86 unintentional activation cases, resulting in eight minor and five fires, with material damages exceeding US $ 340,000. Tragically, three of these fires involved pet victims.
What should the affected customers do
The owners of the mentioned models do not have to throw their stoves, but they should take immediate measures. LG Electronics Canada recommends customers to check the model number, which can be found inside the door or storage door and compare it with the recall list.
Once identified, customers should contact LG to receive a free warning tag and instruction on its placement. The label serves as a reminder to use the “Lock Out/Control Lock” function, which deactivates the heating elements when the interval is not used. LG also offered an instructional video that demonstrates how to activate this safety feature.
