The Supreme Court has, by a majority decision by 4-1, take into account the conviction of the Member of the Parliament Akwatia (parliamentarian), Ernest Yaw Kumi, in a case of contempt, waiting for his appeal to overthrow the verdict.

While four justices supported the decision to suspend the sentence, Judge Gabriel Pwamang did not agree.

Yaw Kumi challenges the contempt of contempt on February 19, by submitting an application for certification and prohibition at the Supreme Court.

His lawyer, Gary Nimako Marfo, claims that Judge Emmanuel Senyo Amadehe from the High Court of Koforidua has exceeded the jurisdiction by managing the parliamentary electoral petition before the electoral commission has officially reviewed the election results.

The justice of Amadehe found Kumi guilty of contempt and issued a bank mandate for his arrest, citing the challenge of a provisional ordinance that prevented him from being sworn as a parliamentarian.

With the decision of the Supreme Court to suspend his conviction, Kumi’s legal battle continues as he tries to overthrow the decision of contempt.
