Mpox still an emergency situation for health – who

The World Health Organization, which, on Thursday, said the Mpox outbreak is still an emergency of public health.

The global health agency, which first declared the emergency situation in August last year, said that its decision is based on the continuous increase in the number of MPOX cases and the geographical spread of the outbreak.

According to WHO, violence in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, which prevented the response plan, was also a factor.

It was gathered that a different form of Mpox was also labeled as an emergency in 2022-2023.

According to a recent WHO report, the new Mpox form continues to predominantly affect the Democratic Republic of Congo, but Uganda and Burundi are also significantly affected.

There have also been cases related to travel to countries, including Thailand and the United Kingdom.

The health agency declared globally, over 21,000 cases were confirmed by laboratory testing from the beginning of 2024, including 70 deaths, mainly in Congo.

Last year, there were also over 50,000 suspected cases and over 1,000 deaths.

The Daily Post reports that Mpox is a viral infection that spreads through tight contact and usually causes flu -like symptoms and lesions filled with pus. It is usually easy, but it can be lethal.
