‘Mrs. Krishnan’s party “Dahls up fun to Tucson Warehouse

As he added healthy “pepper” pockets from the metal container to the boiling vessel, the audience moaned.

No, too much, too much, more people shouted, but James, Wannabe DJ and the host of what invoiced as the best Onam party, they laughed.

Until he found out a few moments later that the pepper was not actually pepper.

We will not say what was James put in Dahl of Mrs. Krishnan; You will need to realize yourself when you see Indian ink theater companyThe production of “Mrs. Krishnan’s party”, who opened Tucson with eight shows on Thursday, at Maya tea company2861 N. Wells Flowing Road. Arizona Arts Live Presents the show until March 8th.

Arizona Arts Live promised us an immersive, interactive theater experience, but “Mrs. Krishnan’s party” delivered much more.

For 80 minutes, we came to forget the world outside the walls of Manish Shah’s Tucson warehouse and make friends with strangers, people of different ethnicities, religious environments and socio -economic circumstances gathered by wonderful stories and a spicy red vessel.

The premise of the story: a James Overzelous (Justin Rogers) throws a party to celebrate Onam’s festival and the return of his owner, only she knows nothing about it. When Mrs. Krishnan (Kalyani Nagarajan) enters the back room of her comfort store and sees 100 foreigners – that would be, the public – making her party, is not happy, while she turns about the room by greeting her foreigners. She agrees with reluctance to allow them to stay until 9:30 am, which becomes quick 9, and in the next hour, it opens about how she became a widow, her disappointment when her son cancels her home and her despair on how her community would see her should start a mystery.

We also find out that James has kept a secret to his owner, that under his party veneer he is a young man who cannot figure out his life after leaving college. When Mrs. Krishnan tells her she is considering the sale of the store and moves back to India, she realizes she has nowhere to leave.

The drama is wrapped in humor, which comes largely of Rogers and Nagarajan’s interactions with each other and the public, including Nagarajan, tearing the demion first to help open the box for its great Dahl (a dish from the northern India, in a Broth Spices) and making a small discussion. Rogers receives a guy first to sweep the rice poured and then brings Todd and Julie on stage to arouse Dahl while dealing with a customer.

This was the true magic of the “Party of Mrs. Krishnan”, seeing the public to become willing actors. Todd and Julie played the potential of romanticism as they stirred the pot and Casey. A woman who was in the first place did not miss a beat when James asked him to offer Mrs. Krishnan; No, she said, it won’t happen.

Rogers and Nagarajan played on each other and the public with such an impeccable comedic moment that it was hard to see when the actors were leaving the script. When we started at night, James and Mrs. Krishnan were in a play, but Rogers and Nagarajan brought them to life and made us feel that we are close friends invited to that party.

The show continues at 7:30 pm Friday and Thursday, and 14:00 and 7:30 pm on Saturday until March 8th at Maya Tea. Tickets available at arizonaartslive.com.
