Markle, Ind. (WPT) – the superintendent of the Central Community Schools Adams, Joel Mahaffey, is experiencing charges after driving after a school conference in Indianapolis.

49-year-old Mahaffey came out of I-69 in Markle on Thursday, when he was supposed to stop at a stop sign, according to a police report. Officer Craig Neuenschwander said that as he could not determine the exact speed, he could say that it is higher than the speed limit posted.

Neuenschwander fired Mahaffey near the intersection between W. Morse street and N. Clark street, the judicial records show. The officer said he could smell the smell of alcohol coming from Mahaffey.

After being asked how much he had to drink, Mahafey did not say anything first, then that he drank a few hours before and later and changed the story to “maybe a beer couple with a friend,” the judicial documents said. Before conducting some sobriety tests on the field, Mahaffy said he has two or three drinks, but that there is no “excessive”.

Mahaffey said he was tired and just tried to return to Bluffon, adding he wouldn’t drive if he had too much to drink.

Neuenschwander noted in his report that he has endeavored to complete the sobriety tests due to problems such as balancing and balance, judicial documents show. Then he gave Mahaffey a breathing test led to a .115 reading.

“O God,” Mahaffey said. “I just ruined my career.”

Mahaffey, which was the 2018 Adams Central Community Schools was scheduled for an initial hearing on Monday morning. He was accused of three offenses that work while charges and an offense for ignoring a stop sign.
