Spitting Image Manufacturer Bill Dare dies after “Over Sea”

Bill Dare, producer and comedy writer at the Sapiting Image Comedy Show, died following a “overseas accident,” said his agent.

The spitting image was broadcast on ITV in the 80s -90s, with puppet caricatures of famous figures, including the government, celebrities and royal family, often mocking it.

The show won several prizes, including Baftas and Emmys.

The spitting image was restarted in 2020, with figures like Boris Johnson, Donald Trump and Meghan Markle.

Dare worked at eight series of shows and worked on radio programs, including Dead Ringers and The Now Show from BBC Radio 4.

Dare’s agents confirmed that he died over the weekend.

In a statement, they said: “Our thoughts are with his wife Lucy, daughter Rebecca and all her family and friends, who will be devastated by her loss.”

They added: “Bill was a truly legendary producer and writer, and his comedy instincts were not in second place.”

His colleagues from the BBC also paid tribute to the “legendary” comic.

Julia Mckenzie, Comedy Commissioner for Radio 4, said: “Bill was an obsessive and very instinctive comedy in taking the most fun choices when it came to writing, directed and edit.”

She added: “She cared so much about her work that in the production cabin during dead sounds, you could see him crouching over the scenario, completely focused on the show.

“He was funny and very dry in person, funny by cynic when he had to be pushed to keep the comedy he made, and especially satire.”
