Louth’s crime figures reveal increasing thefts, attacks and public disorders

The recently launched guard crime The figures for the third quarter of 2024 highlight a continuous tendency of thefts related to theft and public incidents in the Louth Garda Division. Compared to the same period of 2023, the data published by CSO reveals increases in several key crime categories, although some areas have registered light improvements.

Theft and related offenses continue to be the most commonly registered offenses, with 673 incidents in T3 2024 – an increase from 539 in T3 2023. Shoplifting remains a significant problem, increasing from 259 to 350 cases. Also, the theft of vehicles registered an increase, with 97 incidents registered in 2024, compared to 71 in 2023. The theft offenses increased from 57 in T3 2023 to 87 in T3 2024.

There were 238 cases recorded by aggression, threats and harassment in T3 2024, compared to 215 in T3 2023. The attack that caused damage or poisoning registered a slight decrease from 57 to 55 incidents, but minor attacks increased from 132 to 135 cases. Threats to kill or cause serious injury have increased, increasing from 17 to 27 incidents. The harassment and related offenses were more than doubled from 9 to 21 cases.

Public crimes increased suddenly in 2024, 291 incidents registered compared to 238 in T3 2023. Incidents of disorderly conduct increased from 223 to 280 cases, which suggests an increase in antisocial behavior.

A number of 38 sexual crimes were registered in T3 2024, compared to 30 in Q3 2023. Cases of rape and sexual aggression increased from 24 to 33 incidents, while other sexual offenses have registered a slight decrease from 6 to 5 cases.

The controlled drug offenses registered a slight decrease, with 107 cases registered in T3 2024, compared to 124 in T3 2023. In particular, the possession of drugs for sale or supply decreased from 36 to 22 cases. However, weapons and explosive offenses increased from 15 to 2023 to 25 in 2024, with notable increases in cases of firearms.

Traffic offenses showed mixed trends. The number of incidents involving drivers over the legal limit of alcohol has decreased slightly from 31 to 26, while driving cases with drug deficiencies have decreased from 9 to 8. Dangerous or negligent facts have been in 40 cases registered in T3 2024, compared to 46 in T3 2023.

In general, the comparison between Q3 2023 and T3 2024 highlights significant increases in theft, theft, assault and public order in the Louth Garda Division.

At national level, the number of registered crime incidents regarding burglary and related offenses increased by 10% or 878 incidents to 9,981 in the year T3 2024. Most of this growth related to incidents that involve non -fragile burglary.

Registered crime incidents regarding theft and related offenses increased, up 7% or 5,331 to 77,260 incidents during the same period, by six out of ten (57%) incidents in this growth due to theft in stores.

There were also increases in the number of incidents of crime regarding abduction and related offenses (+16% or 23), weapons and explosive offenses (+11% or 297), and of the public order and other social code offenses (+3% or 769).

In contrast, registered crime incidents involving homicide and related crimes decreased by 12% to 75 incidents in the year T3 2024.

Also, decreases were noted in the number of incidents regarding offenses involving drug controlled offenses (-6%), crimes against the government, justice procedures and organizing offenses (-7%), robbery, extortion and hijacking (-2%) and sexual offenses (-1%).
