MCMC will suspend the operator’s license was FM after the DJs mocked the Hindu ritual? Netizans react

Despite their apologies, the local radio station was FM is still in hot waters after a video showing its ads It is assumed to mock the Hindu has gone viral. Unfortunately, the Malaysian radio canal may have to leave the air for the video now infamous.

According to reports, the Communications and Multimedia Commission in Malaysia (MCMC) issued an intention notification to suspend the operator’s license was FM. This news comes after the radio station has received reactions for a video of its hosts, Ahmad Nabil, Azad Jazmin and Radin Amir Angence, making it amuse the Thaipusam Kavadi ritual. In his statement, MCMC said that the licensing has 30 days to submit an answer before any final decision.

On a related note, MCMC also called the top Astro leadership to help the investigation. For those who are not aware, the FM was owned by Astro Malaysia Holdings Berhad and operated on its branch, Astro Radio SDN BHD. The video investigations documents will also be sent to public prosecutors until today (March 6, 2025, Thursday). So far, the authorities have received over 40 reports on the video.

Since then, the Internet users have reacted to the news, sharing mixed reactions. Most agreed with the movement to suspend the radio channel, saying that it serves as a reminder for local radio stations to comply with the rules and regulations. Others said it was an adequate punishment for the radio hosts because they mocked the Hindu religion. On the other hand, some have expressed sympathy with the other FM radio hosts who could be affected, despite the fact that they were not directly involved in the video.

Since then, the three radio hosts have been removed from the air to a subsequent notification. Nabil, Azad and Radin were also called to the Bukit Aman police headquarters (March 5, 2025, Wednesday) to offer their statements. It is also worth noting that the intention notification is probably just a warning for the FM operator for the video, so the radio may not leave the air.

What are your thoughts about it? Do you think a suspension is the adequate punishment for the video?
