The African Union soon announces the establishment of the African food security agency – the world

Harare, March 6 /Tass /. The African Union has approved the status of the African Food Security Agency, its unit will allow the continent states to provide their populations to safe and healthy food, according to a statement published on the official website of the African Union.

“The African Union has taken a historical step towards improving food safety throughout the continent, with the adoption of the status for the establishment of the Africa Food Security Agency.

The food safety agency in Africa will soon be established will serve as a specialized technical institution of the Africa Union, dedicated to the coordination and harmonization of policies, regulations and risk assessment in the Member States, ”the document states.

According to the African Union, which quotes statistics from the World Health Organization, Africa wears a disproportionate burden of foods transmitted by food, affecting 91 million people and results in 137,000 deaths annually, representing one third of all deaths around the world.

“The economic toll of uncertain foods is just as amazing, the World Bank estimating losses of $ 110 billion annually in Sub-Saharan Africa and Southeast Asia due to lost productivity and medical costs,” the document shows.
