A clerk initially told the student that if he does not produce a written answer or participate in a preliminary meeting, he may face the expulsion, suspension or other disciplinary actions against them. The student also said to maintain the trials of the university strictly confidential.

The university claimed that the student violated the updated policy clause on campus, which prohibits graffiti and posters on outer notification panels.

In a written answer, the student in question said that being suspended from the University is a “direct threat to violence that endangers”.

“I am a transgender woman looking for asylum in Australia, because of huge violence and persecution in my country of origin, Malaysia,” she wrote.

“As a transgender woman, I have refused access to care that states, including hormone replacement therapy, in Malaysia and can only access essential medical care in Australia.

“This means that the threat of suspension is a direct threat to violence that can endanger life and forced de-transition, eliminating my access to hormone replacement therapy.”

The updated statement made by the university was issued on March 6 and mentions that the staff is in contact with the student mentioned above.

“Following the concerns raised by a student regarding a notification that were issued in relation to the alleged incorrect behaviors, the University of Sydney can confirm that we are in contact with the student and we confirmed that the penalty interval probably does not include potential suspension, excuses and we offered adequate support that could be necessary,” the statement said.

“The safety and well -being of our community is constantly our main concern and we deeply regret any confusion or suffering about this problem.”
