We use AI to revoke the students’ visas they see as Hamas supporters, Axios reports

Washington – US State Department will use artificial intelligence to revoke foreign students’ visas that perceive as supporters of Palestinian militants in Hamas, Axios reported on March 6, citing high officials of the State Department.

President Donald Trump signed an executive order in January to combat anti-Semitism and committed to deport non-citizens and others who have taken part in pro-Palestinian protests that have been running for months on the background of Israel’s military attack on Gaza, after the Hamas attack in October 2023.

The “Catch and Revoke” effort fed with AI will include AI reviews about tens of thousands of social visa holders, Axios informed.

Axios said the officials checked the news reports of demonstrations against Israel’s policies and the processes of Jewish students who highlight foreign nationals who are supposed to engage in anti -Semitism.

Some pro-Palestinian groups are Jewish themselves and many protesters have denounced anti-Semitism and Hamas. However, there have been incidents of anti-Semitism and Islamophobia in pro-palestinian protests and pro-Israeli counter.

The State Department worked with the departments of internal justice and security, according to AXIOS.

The three departments did not have immediate comments.

Mr. Trump said he would stop federal financing for educational institutions that allow what he called illegal protests.

“The agitators will be incarcerated/or sent permanently back to the country from which they came. US students will be permanently expelled or … arrested, “said Mr. Trump on March 4.

The first amendment of the US Constitution protects freedom of expression and assembly. The lawyers of the rights condemned Mr. Trump’s rhetoric against protesters.

Washington has appointed Hamas as a “foreign terrorist organization.”

The attack of the Islamist group of October 7, 2023 killed 1,200 people, with over 250 hostages, according to Israeli.

The subsequent military attack of Israel on Gaza killed over 48,000 Palestinians, according to Gaza authorities. He traveled almost everyone in there and led to accusations of genocide and war crimes that Israel denies. Reuters
