“I feel like they don’t care:” The fifth woman in Ward feels neglected by the police after the robbery

A robbery caught on the camera in a Fifth section The neighborhood left a local woman to feel insecure in her own house. Jackie Griffin, whose property was broken last month, is frustrated by the slow progress of the police investigation and says that she feels as if the authorities are pulling their feet.

Breaking

While Griffin was visiting his Aunt Texas City, he received an alert from his ADT security system. Just before 9:00 pm, on February 12, the robberies entered the house of Griffin, demolishing a section of her fence to have access to her property. The thieves then removed an air conditioner and climbed the window to enter the house.

“I was just sitting at her house, and the alarm went out. Adt called me to let me know, “Griffin said. Following through her security rooms, she saw a man diving her house.

“I immediately called the police,” Griffin added, describing the moment he saw the intruder inside his house.

A slow police response

When Griffin called the police, she said it took more attempts to cause an officer to go out. “It was probably around three calls before receiving help,” she said. In addition to Griffin’s suffering, her owner and one neighbor saw two other men waiting outside while the burglary happened. The suspect inside the house eventually triggered an alarm, causing the robberies to run away from the stage.

Despite submitting a police report shortly after the incident, Griffin is still waiting for additional actions from law enforcement. She says an investigator has not yet been assigned. “I called three times and every time I call it, they seem very unwavering in this regard,” she said. “I really asked them about their procedures, but they could not explain anything.”

A community concern

Griffin is frustrated by what he thinks is an emergency in crime investigation. She suspects that the police may not pay this case the attention she deserves because of the demography of the neighborhood.

“I feel they don’t care because we live in a neighborhood with great, predominantly black,” Griffin said. “Burglars know that they do not have to worry about the policemen who appear quickly and makes me feel insecure here.”

The impact on her feeling of safety

The interruption trauma had a lasting impact on Griffin’s security feeling. “The first night I slept here after the robbery, it was torture,” she recalled. “I felt I had to protect myself. I live alone, so it took me a week so I can sleep again. “

The burglars were made with a tennis bracelet and other jewelry worth about $ 1,300. Despite the input filming, so far no arrests have been made.

What follows?

When contacted for comments, the Houston (HPD) police department could not confirm whether another investigator was assigned. However, they assured the public that they intend to have someone in case next week.
